M13. Numerical Methods and Analysis of Time-Dependent Inverse Problems and Related Applications

Time-dependent partial differential equations serve as fundamental tools for modeling diverse dynamic physical phenomena. This has led to growing interest in time-dependent inverse problems and related applications, such as imaging inclusions, recovering coefficients, and optimal controls. Unlike methodologies developed for static inverse problems, time-dependent formulations generally necessitate distinct mathematical frameworks and specialized computational strategies. This symposium aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among mathematicians to explore recent advances in inverse problems and optimal controls associated with wave propagation, heat transfer, diffusion processes, and other related systems. Topics to be discussed will include asymptotic analysis, computational methodologies, unique identifiability, stability quantification, and optimal controls for inverse problems involving, e.g., source identification, obstacle detection, and coefficient reconstruction.

The minisymposium will emphasize both numerical methods and theoretical developments as well as strong connections to practical applications across physical sciences and engineering.
